Why is the NBA better than College Basketball???
The NBA's players are more marketable
The NBA has always known how to market it's sport even since the early days of George Mikan players seemed larger than life . You could very easily make a case that the NBA is the best marketed sport in America........in fact most would say it is
A lot of it has to do with the fact that basketball is so easy to market.......you see close ups of players faces all the time on TV.......fans sit within arms distance of the players.......and the best player on a basketball team is just very easy to point out
.....let's take a long at other sports and see how they market their athletes
......Boxing......dead
.......NHL.........nobody cares about
.......MLB.........people care less and less about Major League Baseball.....especially young people......and they just overall do a poor job selling their product......take the whole showing World Series games at like 10 o clock at night
.......NFL........they prolly do the second best job at marketing their sport and selling their players......cept it's hard cause of how the sport is.......they all wear helmets so sometimes you don't know what they look like......and it can seem like sometimes you are far away from the action.......they do however do a great job marketing their Quarterbacks
......NASCAR.......does a great job marketing.......but let's be honest here we all know NASCAR is not a sport lol
now as I said even since the old days the NBA has done a SUPERB job selling their sport and their athletes to the public.......in the 80's we had the introduction to Larry Bird and Magic Johnson two figures that dominated the sports scene for that decade.
then the 90's Jordan took over good Lord did he take over........I mean Jordan was every where........he was in movies, he was in McDonalds ads, he sold Gatorade, he sold Wheaties, he sold golf apparel, he sold clothes, everybody wanted to be like Mike........in fact the man was so well marketed that even to this day years after his retirement he is still makes more money than almost any other athlete on just endorsements and advertisements and etc.
......and even today the NBA is more marketable than ever and we see the NBA and it's players every where we go from Dwight's smile to Nowitzki hangin out with Hasselhoff to Tony Parker marrying and now divorcing Eva Longoria to Carmelo dominating all the sports headlines the last month to John Wall having his own song about him (as terrible as the song is) to Blake Griffin jumpin over Kias to the Lakers and Kobe Bryant and how we feel like we know the life of Kobe Bryant better than his parents do
I went on a mission trip to Philadelphia back in 2001 when Iverson was in his prime in the NBA.......and let me tell you in the streets of Philly every single kid looked the same they had on an Iverson jersey and their hair was in cornrows because that is what Allen Iverson looked like
What college player has ever had a picture of him draped over a building
And of course I type in the word decision to Google and what's the first thing that pops up.........you guessed it .......that's crazy
.......and of course whether you thought that whole thing was stupid or if you disagreed with it or you didn't watch it or whatever there is one thing you can't deny.........it was HUGE news
...............................Now let's take a look at how the NCAA markets it's players
.........umm well the NCAA doesn't really market it's players........why because the NCAA doesn't really allow that sort of thing hmm
.........now of course Mr. Boring NCAA super fan will find someway to turn this into a bad thing.......oh well I don't want my players on commercials, or that's ok the NBA players are just greedy, or I just like everything to be boring ........and that's fine you can choose to not like this but you can't choose to disagree because this one isn't even a comparison
The NBA markets it's players better than the NCAA does
and I leave you with the sports clip o the day
man that never get's old HAHAHAHAH
